Reserved Seating

This idea comes to us from CMPAA member Robert Parigi:

Print up a bunch of paper seat covers that slip over the back of the seat, that say "RESERVED. This patron is avoiding cinema advertising and will return when the feature begins."

So you get to the theatre early enough to get a good seat, put the seat cover on your seat, then go to the concession stand, or play video games in the lobby, or hang out for a smoke, and return for the movie.

You don't have to risk leaving your coat or bag in the seat, and don't have to leave anyone behind to "save" the seats!

Reserve your seats. Avoid movie ads. We love it!

We're exploring the option of producing seat covers. In the mean time, you're welcome to print these seat signs to use at your next trip to the theater.

Click the sign to the right for a larger version, or click here for an Acrobat PDF with this design (394k). Print it out, take it to your local movie chain and enjoy the show.

You may need some tape to attach this to your seat.

Some words of caution in using this sign:

1) Please do not use the sign if you do not intend to return to your seat. It is not our goal to fill the theater with empty seats and frustrate other patrons. The signs are a tool to help avoid movie theater commercials.

2) Take a few copies of your signs to the theater with you. If an audience member protests your sign, give that person a sign they can use.

3) If an audience member takes your seat despite the sign, find another seat. It isn't worth an altercation to confront the individual. The main purpose of this sign is to bring attention to the problem of theater advertising, not to cause problems with other patrons.

4) If a movie theater insists that you cannot use the signs to reserve seats, don't protest. Movie theaters are private property and they have the right to set whatever policies they wish. Ask to speak to a manager, calmly express your dissatisfaction with their advertising policies and put the sign away.
